| History & Location
Misikhu Mission Hospital began life as a 'Dispensary under a tree' in 1954. It was started by the Ursuline Sisters but once established was handed over to a local congregation - The Sisters of Mary.
The hospital is situated in West Kenya on the slopes of Mt Elgon between the towns of Kitale and Webuye.
It is now under the auspices of the Diocese of Bungoma and the Bishop is the Chairman of the Board of Governors. The Hospital is a 'not for profit institution' and its focus is to offer good affordable care to the surrounding communities.
Misikhu Hospital's prime objective is to provide good, sustainable health care to the people of the surrounding area. This is a difficult task - the health needs are great and the people are extremely poor. The local diet is limited - mainly consisting of maize, vegetables and thin soup. Other foods e.g. fruits, eggs and milk are there but they are sold to provide some income for the
family.
